All India Muslim League
By :
Dr. D.S. Merchant
"The year 1324/1906 marks the cleavage and culmination of Muslim politics in the subcontinent, when Imam Sultan Muhammad Shah led the Muslim delegation and met Lord Minto (1845-1914), the Viceroy of India from 1905, at Simla to demand the political rights of the Muslims of India. The deputation to the Viceroy consisted of the most influential leaders, such as Mohsin al-Mulk, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Sir Ali Imam, Sir Muzammallah Khan, Sir Rafiquddin Ahmad, Sir Muhammad Shafi, Sir Abdul Rahim, Sir Salimullah, Justice Shah Din, etc. Syed Razi Waste writes in Lord Minto and the Indian Nationalist Movement 1905-1910 (Lahore, 1976, pp. 69-70) that, "Minto received the Muslim Deputation on October 1, 1906. Thirty-five prominent Muslim leaders from all over India gathered in the Ball Room of the Viceregal Lodge at Simla. Their leader was a young man of twenty-nine years, H.H. Aga Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah Aga Khan from Bombay, who besides being the head of the rich Ismaili sect of Muslims had close and friendly relations with prominent British people." Lord Minto gave them a patient hearing, assuring that their political rights and interests as a community will be safeguarded in any administrative organization. The Imam realized that the Muslims should not keep themselves aloof from politics because the Congress was already proving incapable in representing the Indian Muslims. At length, the demands of separate electorate and weightage in number in representation to all elected bodies were accepted by the Viceroy Lord Minto, and incorporated in the Minto-Morley Reforms of 1909.
Alternatives to being Roman
By :
We're here and the Romans aren't. That's a good thing, right? Well, only if you believe that they deserved to get overtaken by the juggernaut of history and we have something special that means we'll survive longer than they did. A thousand years? We've have to have something very special to be that good. Well, how do we compare? Let's see.
Alternatives to catching criminals
By :
Mike Scantlebury
Why catch criminals? Because they do things that are against the law. British Internet Author Mike Scantlebury has noticed an alternative trend. Why not look as though you're doing something about it, without actually succeeding? That way, everyone is happy, including the crims. It looks good, it sounds good, it's just not real. Well, isn't that just like modern life?
Alternatives to Education Meltdown
By :
Mike Scantlebury
Starting your life at school and going on through education is a learning experience for most of us, but we don't want to hear about you. Here in England we only want to talk about people at the extremes, the brightest at one end and the dumbest at the other. Why? Can't we have a debate about education where we begin to mention the majority, for once?
Alternatives to GM foods
By :
Well, somebody says that GM foods are good for you, but wait a minute, isn't that the same person who sells it to you? Isn't that the same person who is ripping off Third World farmers, stealing fields from Canadian farmers and concealing the amount of GM in everyday purchases like rice and soya? Uh, do they have my best interests at heart? Or is it their own interests that weigh most heavily? Who's the puppet, and who's pulling the strings?
Alternatives to Torture, 1
By :
Mike Scantlebury
Do we have all the answers? If we know so much, why do we have to torture people to find out what they know? Why don't they tell us? Is it because they know less than we do? Internet Author Mike Scantlebury is good at putting the questions. See if you know more than him, and fill in your own answers in this conundrum of an article.
Alternatives to Torture, part 2
By :
Mike Scantlebury
Bad things happen to bad people, don't they say? If people get tortured, it must be their fault, right? Nobody is going to break your legs without a good reason. Probably. On the other hand, if you had actually done something, you'd be in court, not in a dungeon, far from home and not known about. If you're secret, then who has got something to hide - you, or us?

Anambra Statewide Condom Ban
By :
Ken Brower-10301
Anambra is one of Nigeria’s most densely populated states with the 2006 census showing 4.1 million residents. The villages and towns are densely populated with anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000 residents living within the confines of each square kilometer. In Nigeria, alone, the HIV epidemic is staggering, to say the least. According to research done by the United Nations program on HIV/AIDS, every year over 300,000 people become infected with HIV only adding to the 3 million people who are already infected. This accounts for almost 4 percent of Nigeria’s adult population. So what solution, what remedy can be offered that could perhaps stop the epidemic in its tracks? According to state officials in Anambra, a ban on birth control could be just the right path to take.

Asbab Al-Nuzul
By :
Dr. D.S. Merchant
The word sabab (pl. asbab) means reason or cause, and nuzul means revealed. The term marifah asbab al-nuzul is the knowledge about the reason of the revelation, i.e., knowledge about the particular event and circumstances that are related to the revelation of particular passage from the Koran. The Koran revealed piece by piece in the period of 22 years, 5 months and 24 days. The Muslim exegetes maintained that pieces of it were revealed in response to, or as reflections of, certain situations in the life of the Prophet. The Koran says, "And no question do they bring to you, but We reveal to you truth and the best explanation thereof" (25:33).

Battle of Badr
By :
Dr. D.S. Merchant
"The first battle fought between the Muslims and the Meccans about 80 miles from Medina was that of Badr, lying on the Arabian Peninsula near the Read Sea coast. The date given for the battle is 17th, 19th or 21st Ramzan, 2 A.H./March 13, 15 or 17, 624 A.D. Badr is mentioned explicitly once in the Koran (3:123), but there are allusions to it in at least 32 other verses.
The Prophet had hardly breathed a sigh of relief in Medina when he was confronted with the series of military expeditions against the fronts of the heathen Meccans. Attack was apprehended every moment from without and treachery from within. Small detachments of the Qoraish of Mecca used to go out on marauding expeditions and scour the country right up to the outskirts of Medina. Once, one such party lifted camels from the very pastures of the town.
Battle of Ditch
By :
Dr. D.S. Merchant
The enemies of the Muslims created a united front after the battle of Badr and Uhud. This culminated in a solemn pact of alliance among the five principal tribes. When the news of this tremendous mobilization reached the Muslims in Medina, it struck them all with panic. It was Monday, the 1st Shawal, 5/February 24, 627 when a gigantic army under the command of Abu Sufian besieged Medina. The number of this invading force is variously estimated at something between ten and twenty-four thousands, the largest single army ever mustered on Arabian soil.

The Democrats are a perfect example of political hypocrisy in the United States. They have spoken at length about the need to unite America but haven’t been able to be united themselves. The Hillary versus Barack Obama battle is an example of this. Hillary Clinton went out of her way to find dirt on Obama and when she couldn’t, she just adopted the Republican tactics of creating dirt on Obama and scaring people with it.
