By: Jeff Holmes

The period after high school can be a very difficult decision making phase. Not only are you faced with a multitude of higher educational options, but you would also have to deal with financial considerations. For some people, college is just not a practical option in which case an electrician energy school trade program is a good alternative. What are the advantages of going to trade school and what do you need to finish a program?

Trade School

There are numerous electrician energy school trade options but you have to be sure that it is the right choice for you. Trade schools are a good alternative to colleges if you cannot afford to spend a lot of time and money on a college degree.

The main difference is that in trade schools, you get a lot of hands on practical skills training for a short period of time. This means that you can save on a lot of time and money that you normally have to spend for a regular college course.

Job Opportunities

Energy and electric based course are not your only options in trade school or in an electrician energy school trade program. There are a great many options but studying to be an electrician is one of the most popular choices. You can either be a maintenance or construction electrician. As a maintenance electrician you can work on present electrical systems in establishments. Construction electricians on the other hand work on establishing electrical systems on structures that are being put up.

In any of these specializations, the pay is not bad at all. Depending on your company, you might be able to receive an average of $15 an hour.

Aside from electrician program, you can also choose to study other fields of specialization in an electrician energy school trade. These days electricity is no longer the sole source of energy. An electrician energy school trade can therefore offer other fields of study in the areas of alternative energy, fossil fuels and nuclear power. Finishing a program in one of these areas can help you land a job in the industry.

What You Need to be an Electrician

If you think that you want to enter an electrician energy school trade program so you can become an electrician, then you should know what you need to finish a program. In an electrician energy school trade program for electricians, you can get both theoretical and hands on training. You would then have to undergo a four or five year long apprenticeship program. It is also usually a good idea to undergo a licensure exam where you will have to deal with questions on electrical theory and government codes.

Aside from the academic and legal requirements, a student in an electrician energy school trade program also needs to have some specific traits. A potential electrician should be physically fit with a sense of balance and coordination. An electrical student is also usually required to have some innate skill in figure and blue print interpretation.
