The Pros and Cons of Using Hidden Surveillance Cameras

By: Nahshon Roberts

Covert Spy Cameras and Their Pros and Cons

People caught in hidden spy systems consider it a privacy violation, but for businesses, it's an advantage. Before you put up covert surveillance cameras in your establishment or at home, know the local laws to prevent trouble with such opposing views.

Business Use

The installation of hidden spy cameras at home or in the business establishment provides the home or business owner a bit of security. Spy cameras can give proof to solve crimes by recording footages, even though they may not exactly cease the crime as it's being done.

Recordings show the comings and goings of people into the establishment from different entryways and captures operations or activities in the different parts of the house or office. Suspicious movements in the surrounding vicinity of the establishment are quickly spotted.

Office theft can be immediately solved. Because their actions are monitored, workers behave better. Hence, they cannot afford to malinger at the water cooler or take a snooze when they assume you are not watching. Covert cameras can catch anything.

Vital For Home

At home, phone numbers of local authorities and who to call if surveillance equipment malfunction have to be accessible to family members.

When you're not around, kids need to be strictly instructed of emergency procedures and not to let anybody inside the house. In case something unforeseen happens, children have the leverage because they are aware of what to do.

You can monitor the activities of your kids' babysitter if you're at work. Knowing that you can keep an eye on the kids and on the babysitter gives you and other working parents peace of mind.

Disadvantages You Must Understand

Though surveillance systems seem to be God's blessing to home and establishment owners, you must think twice prior to getting one. Different states have varying laws that govern the installation of surveillance, so it's advised to do your research and find out which ones concern you before you put up a surveillance system. Your surveillance supplier should also be able to advise you, as well.

A few states do not condone the installation of surveillance cameras in bathrooms. Often, the presence of surveillance in a restroom is advised.

Surveillance systems are not means for voyeurism, but are created for protection. No one wishes to be caught doing private things on camera without being aware of it.

If you don't advise the installation of spy systems in your home or office, you can be sued left and right by those who imagine violation of their private time. The results can be costly, traumatic, and a waste of time.
