Through time beds have taken many different forms. In Ancient Greece beds were only available for the wealthy and powerful, although even then they were crude wooden slabs. The first truly luxurious beds were imported from Persia during the reign of Alexander the Great. Gradually beds became a symbol of wealth and embellishments such as when the canopy made it's debut.

Beds have come along way over the years. Considering we spend 1/3 of our lives in bed and that's just when we're sleeping, buying a bed is one of the most important decisions you will make for your home. It will be the focal point of your bedroom and the place of your dreams. Finding the bed of your dreams can be as simple as walking into a store or as frustrating as having to search hundreds of stores and still not finding what you're looking for.

Canopy beds are romantic and luxurious. Every little girls dreams of being a princess and what do princesses sleep in , canopy beds. They have become a symbol of wealth and luxury. Canopy beds come in many different shapes and sizes.

When shopping for a canopy bed there are a few things you should think about.

Take careful measurements of your room before you go shopping for your canopy bed. Keep in mind that you will need about two feet on each side of the canopy bed for easy bed making and all that bedding you will be putting on. Also consider the height and length of the canopy bed compared to the tallest person who will be using it.

Comfort is a very important thing. The canopy bed as well as the mattress must be comfortable. How the bed is made can be a big factor as to whether the bed is comfortable or not.

You want a sturdy well made bed. Looking underneath the bed can give you a good idea as to how the bed is made. If the canopy bed is wooden make sure the legs and head are bolted to avoid friction and secure the beds position on the floor.

The last step to choosing your canopy bed is the type of fabric you want used. Canopy beds can use anything from mosquito netting to rich soft velvets for there canopies. Choosing the right fabric can depend a lot on where you live. You don't want to use heavy velvets if you live in a tropical climate.

Canopy beds can be romantic and luxurious without being terribly expensive. Considering the bed is where we spend so much of our time, indulge your fantasies and check out a canopy bed.
