The Best Way to Pick the Best Church for You

By: Ear Hall

One of the reasons that we start looking for a new church is because we move or get invited to go somewhere else to worship. We normally grow up in church and just end up going where ever momma and daddy went. Is this the best way to find what is right for us though? Your relationship with God is the most important relationship that you will ever form. I know that we live in a world of computer match making, but do you want to "google" a church?

We have many different reasons for the going to the church we belong to. In fact churches now a day know just how to market to you to get you in the door. Some of us are captivated by the name of the church. Others are excited about the activities for the youth or even singles programs. When you ask most people why they go to the church that they attend they will normally say, "God led me there". Is this true? Did God lead you to the church where you are? Didn't you say that about the church you left?

Well if we leave a church or a place of worship, is it because we got mad at something the leaders did, or did God really lead us somewhere else? I am one that does not place a lot of stock in building big buildings for "God". The bible clearly tells us that "we" are the house of God. We are the church. We need to spend more time developing people, rather than building buildings. Ok, may be that is a topic for another article.

God has made us some definite promises. When you look at Jeremiah Chapter 3 there is a way that you can know that God has led you to certain ministry. What you have to realize is that you will need to have right relationship with God, first, in order for God to lead you to the right pastor or leader. We so often want to blame leaders for doing or teaching wrong, but it all begins with you and your relationship with God. Read this.

Jeremiah 3
13 Only acknowledge your guilt— you have rebelled against the LORD your God, you have scattered your favors to foreign gods under every spreading tree, and have not obeyed me, declares the LORD.

14 "Return, faithless people," declares the LORD, "for I am your husband. I will choose you—one from a town and two from a clan—and bring you to Zion. 15 Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.

What you need to realize in order to pick the best church for you is this. Have the right relationship with God first and he will give you just what you need for a shepard and a pastor. Are you right with God? Maybe its not your pastor. Maybe it is you that needs a change.

Be blessed.
