Cheating, infidelity, an affair: we know them by different names, but by each we associate the straying of one partner in a marriage into sexual relations outside the boundaries of marriage. It is painful and emotional: this is infidelity.
Infidelity affects society along with the couple. Marriages that experience a cheating partner usually end in a divorce. Recently, a study found that about 90% of first time divorces were brought on by infidelity. This is a large, alarming figure.
While studies differ, some researchers say that as little as 20% of divorces are caused by infidelity, a much smaller figure. Still, other couples live on in unhappy relationships. A recent study showed that men were the primary causes of infidelity, but they were only 5% over women.
It is in society's best interest to figure out the effects it has on society as a whole. For certain, no good can come of it. Worse still is the effect it has on children, who suffer a lot of stress when their parents' marriage is in trouble.
When divorce does occur, children can be at risk of negative effects. They may begin feeling insecure with their place in a family. Children thrive in a single family unit, and do best with role models of both sexes. Sometimes, couples choose to stay together for the children, but an unhealthy environment may be inevitable in either circumstance.
Divorce means children get torn between two different households, meaning they are missing out on the love of one parent and causing negative emotions. Some children become violent, acting out after the emotional devastation of a divorce. And if there are new step-parents, a child's life becomes full of turmoil.
The children think both the parents neglect them. Therefore, they seek love elsewhere. Young girls often fall in love with people who are not worthy and get into more problems. Some children become drug addicts when they are short of parental love. In certain cases, divorce affects the education of the children and subsequently their future.
Infidelity shakes the foundations of family, negatively affecting society. Tearing families apart is unhealthy and can lead to disturbances in a child's developmental growth. It also creates a weakened society. In other words, the long-term affects of infidelity can cause irrevocable damage to society.
