This career is very similar to the stationary accountant in that he will have much responsibility and be able to plan his own schedule in accordance with his own preferences. The big difference is that he will be traveling to his clients’ homes or offices. He will have to find clients that are in his area. With this career, the accountant needs to have a vehicle he can drive, but he doesn’t need a great home computer or his own copy of the computerized accounting program, QuickBooks. Another downside to being an independent contractor, namely a traveling or stationary computerized accountant, is the lack of “benefits”. Medical and dental insurance must be funded personally. There are no paid vacations as an independent contractor. He must warn all his clients several weeks before he takes time off; and making sure that all important financial actions are completed before vacation starts.
