Secrets To Quickly and Cheaply Grow Your Card Collection When Starting a New Collectible Card Game!

By: Ben Needles

Starting to play a new collectible card game, or CCG, can be both incredibly rewarding and incredibly expensive. As you begin to get comfortable with the game and decide to play more, youll quickly find the need to grow your card collection. Here are some of the best ways to grow your collection and stay competitive without breaking the bank.

1. Sealed/Limited Play. Magic the Gathering, World of Warcraft, the Spoils, and Yu-Gi-Oh, all have some form of game type where you build decks based on booster packs. Youll buy a set number of booster packs, usually 3, and build the best deck you can out of those limited pool of cards. High level tournament players prefer this game type because it requires the most skill. It also gives you the most game play for your money since every card will most likely be played in a game.

2. Buying and opening packs. This is the easiest and most popular method to build your collection. Its very fun to open a pack and see whats inside. However if you go this route, its advisable to buy your packs in bulk. Boxes and cases are available from many online resellers; and your local shop usually offers a discount from the per pack price if you buy from them.

3. Buy someones collection. Just as you are eager to join the game, someone is looking to sell all or a part of their collection. Sometimes people need a few dollars immediately. This is when you can have massive bargains on hard to find cards. Other times, people are tired of the game and are looking to move onto a new challenge. These people are usually willing to part with their entire collection for a small fraction of its retail worth. Sometimes as low as 10 cents on the dollar. One word of warning, buying an entire collection can be risky since you dont know the quality of this persons collection. I recommend having an experienced person look over the collection or to use a pricing guide.

4. Get free cards! Many people will just give away their entire collection after they have sold their rare and valuable cards. Find someone getting out of the game and see if they are willing to donate all or part of their collection to you. Why would someone give away all of their cards? To free up storage space! If you frequent your local shops, youll be in great position to find someone who is about to quit, just ask around. Also, some play groups will even donate cards from their collection to help new players. This helps the new player (YOU!) and increases the available pool of players. Remember this when your collection grows.

Once you have an collection, youll start to get ideas for decks but may be missing a few cards. Once you reach this point, your best option it to buy or trade for individual cards. If you have duplicate cards or cards you are not playing, you can trade with other players that you meet. If you cant trade for cards, you can always buy that last elusive card from your local shop or online at a site that specializes in buying and selling CCGs like.

Remember that the main purpose of playing a collectible card game is to have fun. If you follow these tips youll be crushing your competition and building your collection while getting the most bang for your hard earned buck.
