For maximum response, you should definitely post a picture with your profile, but it should not be one that gives away information that could be used against you. A profile without a photo can send the wrong message that either you are not attractive or that you are hiding something.
Many people question whether on not we want to post photos online with a dating service. We are anxious of showing too much information without knowing the person on the other end that is viewing our profile and photos. On the other hand you usually won't get many responses back if there is not at least one photo posted. When making a decision on if you will post a photo for online dating be sure to weigh out the pros and cons.
If someone is dedicated enough, they can determine your identity from a picture. However, it would generally require a bit of background information such as your locale, the place you were born or other seemingly trivial data. Add a telephone number into that mix and trouble begins to brew. It is not the image that causes the issue, but supplemental information that might be included in the profile or elsewhere. If you are particularly uncertain, take your picture in a public place, or use a plain neutral backdrop. This would limit any additional identifying marks that someone might use for nefarious purposes.
In online dating you really do want to post a photo if you want the maximum response. Most feel that a lack of photo is more a potential scam or the person is not comfortable with how they look so they tend to avoid photo less profiles.
