Proactive Skin Care - Defeating Acne

One of the most bothersome and troubling conditions for any adult who is usually without health problems is acne. Besides being an obvious annoyance when looking in the mirror, it can have a negative effect on self esteem and create anxiety, depression and the inability to go out into society normally. Thankfully it is manageable and with a few simple processes, the skin can clear.
1. Choose cosmetics wisely: look for safe cosmetics that are labeled 'comedogenic' (non-acne forming). A possible cause of acne trouble for many adults can be bad cosmetic products which result in over oily skin or cause other forms of irritation. To improve your skin overall and achieve proactive skin care, it is also advisable to apply makeup in only a light layer, so allowing your skin to "breathe".
2. Watch your diet. Many people think that chocolate and greasy foods cause or worsen acne, but this isn't true in every case. There are people who are sensitive to these foods and find them to cause their acne to worsen. It has also been discovered, however, that other foods can have the same effect on some people. In order to figure out what part of your diet may be contributing to acne outbreaks, you should keep a food diary.
3. Regular skin cleaning is important for adult acne sufferers. Just washing the face a few times each day with a gentle soap can prevent outbreaks without drying the skin. A similar 'comedogenic' body wash can be used on the neck, and other areas prone to acne.
4. Achieve "the perfect moisture" level. You may be surprised to learn that adult acne can also be caused by the skin being either too dry or too oily. This is a result of an imbalance in the acid level of the skin which can result in acne. To be proactive about the situation, use soaps and moisturizers which specifically match your individual skin type.
Another cause of adult acne that you might not have thought about is the environment around you. There are many indoor and outdoor factors that may affect your skin; extreme temperatures resulting from too much heating or air conditioning; air pollution and poor quality air; and allergens in the air. You can try to control your environment to care for your skin.
