Nothing is more fun than planning a party for all your friends, but when trouble strikes on a large gathering it appears much large than it needs to because there are more people involved. To avoid all this and prepare a wedding event that is full of fun and happiness keep in mind your guests and their needs as well and you'll have the party of a lifetime. I try to think of myself attending another social event so I can image what it feels like from their perspective. I'm usually running late, and want to park as close to the event as possible since I'm carrying gifts and may have a few children in tow. I usually have a pretty good clue where I'm going but sometimes addresses are a little funny or the directions aren't as clear as they could be so have clear signs along the way is helpful. I'm also very interested in feeling welcomed by a nice large building that says "this is where I'm supposed to be." Nothing is worse than showing up and wondering if you're at the right place. Getting your guest together to mingle is important because you won't be entertaining them the whole time, there's too many of them. So if you create a way (and a place) for them to meet each other then they will eventually fall into their comfort zone and start talking, drinking, and partying as you would hope. Getting the right facility to fit the size of your party and your budget can be difficult at times and you may have to increase your budget if it's the right facility. Nothing is worse than have all your guests crammed into a little space and feeling like they need to leave early so more of your guests can arrive and meet with you. Large open spaces are great for this and can be decorated to feel more intimate. Sometimes creating a kid friendly activity will help keep them busy and relax your guests so they can enjoy your wedding as well. You will need room, usually in view of their parents, for this to work so maybe this is something for you to consider as well. Making the children the center of the party may also work in that all of the activities include them and have a theme about families therefore making your guests feel the most comfortable. Most facilities are finding it easier for everyone if they provide on-site catering for your event. Some even require that you use their caterer. This isn't a bad thing but it may not be in your plans so be sure to ask if this is important to you. Finding space for everyone is the key to finding the right building. Your entertainers, whether they be djs or live musicians, will need somewhere to setup and play and you'll want to be sure they have the room necessary to make this a hit at your party. Make sure the venue you choose goes along with the theme of your wedding so you can feel at home here too. It's important to not only find a place that isn't already booked, but find somewhere that provides the ambiance you're trying to create so your pictures will bring back all the memories you've hoped for.
