For a rewarding experience if you're a nurse, in home health care would be a good choice. You get the opportunity to change someone's life by caring for their needs and allowing them to stay in the area they are used to. Too often, the elderly and disabled are forced into institutionalized facilities just because they have no one left to watch out for them. This can be traumatic for an ill person. Already, they're thrust into a state of stress from their sickness, then they're plopped in among alien people and surroundings. It's been documented that one's state of mind plays a role in their ability to heal. It's been known for years that one's will to live affects the state of their health. Older people who have lost a spouse need comforting surroundings to provide a sense of stability. They may have lived in the same place for a long time and considering their age, moving them into unfamiliar surrounding may make them disoriented and have a devastating effect on their health. Depending on the state you live in will determine if you need to take a state administered test. There are certain states that do not have a state law that requires home health care workers to be licensed or certified. Quite a few health care agencies are available for placing clients and workers together. Generally, this is how home health care workers find their employment. After completing your training and you move, it may be required to show proper documentation to the agency providing your work. All certifications, licenses, or relevant training that you have gained must be submitted to this health care agency. This also applies if you are trying to find work through a nursing registry. Medicare and Medicaid are government agencies that provide insurance to a number of Americans. To get a job with Medicare or Medicaid as a home health aide, 75 or more hours of training are necessary, and a competency evaluation may be required, as well. If you'd like to work for a licensed-only agency, though, many states only require 40 hours of training, as well as a competency exam. In addition, many other agencies are hiring workers with more than 40 hours of training--so each agency is different in their requirements. Would you like to job hunt by adding your name to a nurse's registry? If so, you'll need to show evidence that you've finished 40 or more hours of health aide training, in one of these settings: a public vocational school, a private, state-licensed career school, or a home health agency. With proof of this qualification, we can ensure that our clients are served by educated professionals. A home health agency can provide you training to work as an aide. To satisfy the growing demand for workers in this field and help people enter a field that pays better, the agencies sometime relax their criteria and provide free or reduced training. This is provided the candidates meet certain criteria. These agencies can provide such training because they are licensed by the states in which they operate. One of the basic requirements for employment by a home health agency is that employees undergo at least two hours of HIV/AIDS training. Another requirement is a current certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Every two years, the employee must also pass a one-hour in-service HIV/AIDS training . You need 12 hours of service training during a 12 month period to qualify for hiring for Medicare and Medicaid agencies. You can include any CPR training when you figure your training time. Obviously, this sort of position does not require a great deal of learning on your part. Nevertheless, you should expect to work those shifts which most employees consider undesirable. As is generally the case, those who have seniority get to choose the most desirable time slots, but the advantages of this position are greater than any of its disadvantages. Finding satisfaction in your job is sometimes quite rare in the workplace. However, knowing that you have given someone the opportunity to stay in a familiar environment and avoid ending up with strangers can give you the satisfaction that you desire.
