Although the original Monty Python television show was only on the air for a very short time, compared to most modern sit-coms, the impact of this legendary British television show can not be understated. It has given birth to dozens of copies, a few classic films, and today, a musical known as Spamalot!

The production is based loosely on the film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and there is quite a bit of original material here that fans of Monty Python will love. Former cast member of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Eric Idle, helped write the script for Spamalot!, and in doing so, brought in many of the hilarious jokes and routines from The Holy Grail. While a working knowledge of musical theatre is not completely necessary to enjoy Spamalot!, it does help a bit. There are many jokes in the production making fun of such Broadway staples as Cats and Phantom of the Opera, but if you aren’t familiar with these shows, don’t fret. You will likely be laughing so hard already that you won’t even notice!

The show also makes several jabs at pop culture, and the script is continually updated to keep these fresh. Spamalot! is performed all over the country by resident and touring companies. Many of the most popular Monty Python and The Holy Grail routines remain intact, such as the "Knights of Ni" and other hilarity. At its heart, Spamalot! is one of the most accessible Broadway style productions: you don’t need any special knowledge of the show or of the film or of anything much at all to have the time of your life here.
