The importance of reading was no doubt emphasized while you were growing up, but many adults simply do not read for leisure. Despite this, many people are well aware that they should probably be reading more than they do; luckily, books on tape are available. Interestingly, books on tape rarely exist on cassette anymore. Rather, CDs and downloadable MP3s are widely available and wildly popular. Wouldn't it be great to finally find out what all the buzz is about with books? Whether you have not been reading because of a lack of time or a lack of interest, you can still find out about books by listening to books on tape. If you think listening, in lieu of reading, is "cheating," keep in mind that even book clubs are using audio as a stand-in for reading. As it turns out, hearing books on tape can be just as beneficial as reading silently to yourself. You see, the basic premise behind books on tape is that some people are auditory learners; these are the people who cannot concentrate while attempting to silently read to oneself. Books on tape offer an alternative, wherein you can still be exposed to language and literature without the time-consuming silent, sustained reading. By the same token, books on tape are great for enrichment and enhancement of reading. By listening to the audio version while reading along, you can have the best of both worlds. This is a technique you may remember from your school days... reading aloud. You are able to hear the tone of voice, pronunciations of new words, and so forth. In this way, you are actually realizing a much greater benefit, in that you are being exposed to nuances of language twice in one sitting. All in all, books on tape can be used to enhance your reading or used instead of reading. Either way, you will get a much better result than if you avoided reading completely. So get online, go to the library, or check out the local bookstore. Books on tape are everywhere, and many people have already been realizing the benefits of listening to books on tape.
