Leather gloves can be used for many purposes. They can be used during the colder months for both formal and casual occasions. They can be used on the job, or they can be used during recreational activities, like motorcycle gloves are. For these reasons and more, leather gloves are extremely useful and versatile.
The versatility of leather gloves is partially due to their durability. Fur gloves just don't suit any work environment. You also wouldn't want to wear fur gloves on a casual day or when having a snowball fight with your kids. In this respect, leather makes gloves more versatile.
Another reason that gloves made of leather are so versatile is due to the fact that they are very efficient at retaining warmth. If they were not efficient the gloves would not be used so widely across the board for things from dress wear to work gloves. The major reason leather retains heat so well is due to the fact that they are wind proof. Also they have inherent ability due to being made from animal skin.
Motorcyclists often wear leather gloves. The wind resistance they provide is the most important reason they choose leather as the material for their gloves. Driving down a highway subjects riders to large amounts of wind, which they need protection of. Even though fur is warm, it does not provide as much wind resistance and riders will still have to endure cold hands.
There are many different types of leather in today's market. The three main types of leather that are used for making gloves are cow, kangaroo, and deer. Each of the three main types all have their unique differences. Things such as the feel of the leather, the durability, and the ability to resist water damage are all types of these differences.
For instance gloves made from the deer skin leather will typically be a more luxurious look and feel to them than gloves made from the cow skin leather. However, their ability to repel water is not as good as that of the cow skin leather.
