Under hypnosis, the subject is fully alert, in fact more alert than usual. The term hypnosis actually is derived from the Greek word sleep but the individual under hypnosis is not asleep or unconscious and is in fact more alert than ever. If you change money, to a cure for anxiety, or stress, or phobia, or smoking, or losing weight, or nail biting, or marital problems, or excessive drinking, or blushing, or headaches, or pain, or a whole host of other physical and psychological problems then what you have in the opening paragraph is what most people expect from hypnosis. The next best thing to a hypnosis session with an experienced hypnotherapy's may be listening to a self hypnosis cd, tape, or other recording medium. Sometimes, on a self hypnosis recording a subliminal element will be included to increase the power of that recording. With a Hypnosis CD or MP3 on the other hand the quality of them is consistent. Where a good public speaking hypnosis cd can help is in using the power of the imagination for and not against, the person. All of this means that the quality of a therapy session will vary dramatically. A change of how you view your situation when you have more than one problem is the first thing to do if you feel overwhelmed. Often the biggest problem is the person's ability to think and imagine the worse possible outcome of their speech. Some people unwittingly fall into the trap of doing things for other people. Check that your chosen hypnotist is certified in their chosen field. Often, the hypnotist will work to teach your subconscious to equate smoking with something unpleasant, like nausea. It is this level of managed relaxation that a hypnotist will try to help you achieve so they can condition your subconscious mind with directed suggestion, which in this case is quitting smoking. With sleep this clerical error stems from the stage hypnotist's use of the word "sleep" as analogous to the hypnotic state. The hypnotist does not have any magnetism over the subject. But when the old time hypnotist swung the watch in front of the subject's face, he told the subject that she was getting "sleep-swollen. Times have changed.
