Is There a Food Shortage In Our Future?

By: J. Stromsteen

Is it even within the realm of possibility that America could face food shortage in her future?

The answer to this is yes.

Recently there was a story in the NY Sun about the emergence of some food shortages in some regions of the US. Chances are this is a forerunner of what is to come. There are several factors that contribute to why this is even a possibility.

Traditionally, there has been enough food for everyone on the planet. That is changing. The world is bumping up against maximum capacity in many commodities. Oil is a primary one. The world is not running out of oil anytime soon. However, the world has tapped most of the easy oil fields. There is plenty more oil available, but it is getting more and more expensive to extract. There is only so much available that is easy to get to. The same applies to mines. There is only so much ore that easy to mine. There is more ore available, but it isn't economically feasible at today's prices to mine.

The same situation applies to ore mines. There is only so much ore that we are able to mine even if there is more ore available; if it is not economically feasible to mine it we cannot obtain it. Basically this means that there is just so much supply available at affordable prices. The higher the price the fewer people that can afford it and the more supply there will be available just beyond reach.

This also applies to food. There is only so much available. In the past, the US has experienced a very strong currency. We could be top bidder for the world's commodities. That is changing. The value of the dollar has been sinking for the past few years. Other countries will be able to out bid the United States for precious commodities. China has been going around the globe the past 2 years doing exactly that.

This development will continue as the US continues to print more money resulting in a watering down effect. With the value of currency in the downward process, the US will find itself with less ability to be top bidder in obtaining its resources.

The above story of regional food shortage is just the beginning of a very shocking change for America. As a country we have overspent for decades, and now we are just starting to have to face reality.

Prepare yourself; it's going to be painful
