In any interview aside from the preparation necessary for questions and answers, the choice of the correct attire plays a very significant part. Your personal manner, interpersonal skills and qualifications are equally significant aspects that reflect your personality. Appropriately chosen attire helps promote the image that you are serious about the job and understand the nature of the industry in which you are attempting to find work. In some industries where customer contact and image presentation is necessary, your attire is a significant determining factor.
Your attire should be appropriate and well fitted but it should not be the focus of attention. Such things may create an unfavourable impression for the interviewer. Even if you are aware that other employees of the company dress casually in the work place, you need to ensure that you are dressed in formal attire for the interview unless otherwise informed.
A two piece matched light colored suit is always the best and safest choice for women. If the job does not allow you to wear a suit then you could possibly wear jeans, especially if the work is located in an outdoor environment. Navy blue, dark gray (and black for women) are safe enough colours: do not choose colours which are extreme or too dark. You should ensure that your clothes fit well. Be sure to invest in a quality outfit that suits your body type. One good quality suit or similar is enough for job interviews depending upon your budget. You can vary your shirt and tie according to the colour of the suit. Opt for good quality silk ties and avoid very fashionable and funky types of ties.
Gents should preferably wear long sleeved shirts regardless of the season and should opt for colours such light blue or a solid blue with conservative stripes. Wear dark colored socks that are at least mid calf length so that no bare skin on your legs is visible when you sit down. With regard to shoes, leather, lace up, or slip-on business type shoes in either black or dark brown are appropriate. Buy a good quality pair of shoes that will be suitable for any special occasion and you will be sure that they are suitable. Along with shoes, a matching black or dark brown leather belt will complete the look you desire. Ladies should put on well applied makeup, being careful to apply everything light including lipstick and eyeshade. It should be applied to create a natural look. Wear a simple piece of tasteful jewellery to project a professional look and wear a conservative watch. Style your hair well to complement the professional look.

If you carry a purse, keep it small and simple especially if you also wish to carry a briefcase. The colour of your purse should co ordinate well with your whole attire. A leather bag or purse will be an excellent choice. Your clothes must always be clean, neatly pressed and fit properly. Don?t carry a large briefcase: carry only the most important documents with you. To complete your attire, you may spray light perfume, but be sure that it is not overpowering or a possible irritant.
