Ignatius Piazza is the founder and director of the nation's largest, most successful gun training school, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. Front Sight's statistics and successes clearly illustrate their place in the gun training industry: masters. Annually, Front Sight delivers firearms training to more students than all other shooting schools in the nation combined. A pedigree of this nature makes Dr. Piazza's opinion more than just words - it makes his words golden.
Recently, an article in the US News seemed to echo the words Dr. Piazza has been speaking, writing, advertising and practically shouting at the top of his lungs: the way to keep school grounds safe is to get firearms training for those who protect the school. Dr. Piazza has been the leader of the firearms training for teachers movement since the first school shooting rocked the nation over eleven years ago. Since then, especially after such events as Columbine and Virginia Tech, Dr. Piazza has called for school districts to send their teachers to Front Sight for free firearms training.
That's right: Dr. Piazza is more interested in safeguarding and protecting America than he is in turning a profit. As such, he has openly (and repeatedly) called for any and all school districts in the nation to send three duly appointed 'safety officials' to Front Sight for free concealed carry training and defensive handgun training. But this is no hollow offer, the training received by these safety officials rivals the training police officers and even military personnel receive. Front Sight delivers top-notch, expert training and doesn't allow for anything but the finest in their graduates. Their cadre consists of former police officers, ex-military and some of the world's finest firearms trainers.
Dr. Piazza has called for firearms training for school staff, and now the newspapers are saying the same. " 'There are police forces that have the responsibility to make life and safety decisions, and they don't have the full equipment to do it,' says Raymond Thrower Jr., president of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. ... 'It's like giving a firefighter a car and telling him to go put out the fire without the truck and the rest of the equipment.' "
Some of the changes are taking place close to home for Dr. Piazza. According to the same article, "Nevada education officials next month plan to take up a proposal to allow some college faculty members and staffers across eight public campuses to carry guns as part of a special reserve officer corps."
And now that there is all this media hype and publicity surrounding getting staff, faculty and security trained with firearms training, will Dr. Piazza's opinion change on giving training free of change? No. Dr. Piazza stands by his decision to get free training for any three officials from any and all school districts of America. He wants all schools and all students to be completely safe in the event of a gun-related attack, and he knows that gun training is safety. Front Sight Firearms Training Institute is once again vindicated by the press: it's time to use arms to fight arms.
