Ignatius Piazza Commends Ohio For Firearms Decision

By: Jayden Adams

Columbus State Community College has earned itself a commendation from Dr. Ignatius Piazza, the founder and director of the nation’s largest firearms training school, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. Dr. Ignatius Piazza has been espousing for years the decision that the trustees of Columbus State came to on Friday, September 28: arm those who guard our schools.

The list of schools who have heard Dr. Piazza’s cries for logical, reasonable protection of our campuses is long indeed, and Columbus State is the most recent. According to the Columbus Dispatch, an Ohio periodical, "Columbus State trustees ordered President Valeriana Moeller [Friday night] to draw up a plan to arm the campus' 16 sworn officers.

" 'Our No. 1 priority is our students and staff,' said board Chairwoman Suzanne Stilson Edgar. 'It really feels good. We're doing what's right for everyone.' "

According to the trustees of Columbus State, "[I]f Columbus State wants the force to be able to make felony arrests, it should arm the already sworn officers and properly select, train and supervise them so they know when and how to use their guns." Dr. Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight couldn't agree more. If a college, or any school, wants to protect its student population, the factor of potentially lethal gunmen must be taken into account. And according to Dr. Piazza, the only way to properly respect, respond to and handle such a threat is to have fully trained, fully capable armed guards ready.

The report written by the Columbia State trustees explains that those in charge of the continuation of the college are concerned about the safety of their students. They are fully aware that if something as terrible as the Virginia Tech incident were to occur, the only way to properly handle such a event would be to have armed guards and policemen on-call, armed and ready to handle it.

Front Sight and Dr. Ignatius Piazza have just such the training to get any and all guards ready for such an event. Front Sight is America's largest gun training institute. In fact, Front Sight trains more students annually than all other shooting schools in the nation combined. And it's not because it's the oldest, not because it's the most centrally located or that it has the easiest courses. Interestingly, the opposite is true in all those cases: Front Sight is only about eleven years old, and it has exponentially surpassed shooting schools which have been around for two or three times as long. Located near Las Vegas, Nevada, Front Sight is not close for anyone, but not far for anyone either. It's courses are not designed to be easy or simply passed – the coursework is difficult and expert, and makes anyone who takes it a master.

Dr. Ignatius Piazza and his brainchild, Front Sight, are the masters of their industry – gun training. As such, his opinions mean more and have more weight than the opinion of the average layman. Therefore, when he makes it a point to demand schools across the nation to arm their guards and commends those that do, all schools should listen up.
