Ignatius Piazza has laid down a challenge to all of America, to each and every citizen of the United States. Ignatius Piazza, the founder and director of Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, not only challenged Americans, he encouraged them, he even dared them, to realize the vast importance of the case which the U.S. Supreme Court will be ruling on soon. The case which holds the attention of the man personally responsible for the training of tens of thousands of gun training students from the nation's largest firearms training facility is District of Columbia v. Heller. The case is concerned with a citizen's constitutional right to bear a handgun in the District of Columbia. A ban in D.C. restricts all citizens from owning handguns, and so many citizens have acted out against this that the U.S. Supreme Court has taken up the case. It is this case which Ignatius Piazza suspects that Americans don't know enough about, and he dares them to learn more about it.
It shouldn't surprise anyone that the founder and director of the shooting school which delivers gun training to more students annually than all other major shooting schools combined is hooting and hollering about gun rights and Second Amendment U.S. Supreme Court cases. But Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight are not the only people making noise about this case. To start, one of Front Sight's very own students is one of the reasons for the case. George Lyon, a D.C. resident, decided after taking courses in firearms training at Front Sight that the D.C. ban was absolutely unconstitutional - as a practicing attorney, his opinion holds a bit of weight.
But not only are Ignatius Piazza, Front Sight and Front Sight's students making noise about the D.C. ban and the U.S. Supreme Court case. Court scholars are calling this case the most important Second Amendment case the U.S. Supreme Court has seen in over seventy years. The mayor of D.C. said of the argument in the U.S. Supreme Court, "[it is] the most important court case the District has ever been involved in." One sees why Ignatius Piazza's challenge is pertinent.
Ignatius Piazza's challenge doesn't end at getting information about the case, however. The former-California-chiropractor-turned-firearms-master challenges America to realize not only the importance of gun ownership in America, but also the importance of gun training and firearms training. Why, Front Sight and Ignatius Piazza ask, would the Founding Fathers of our country establish as the second most important right to reserve for the citizens of this nation the right to bear arms? For one, the founders had just fought a long and bloody war with arms and munitions which they had to keep secret from the tyrannical government they were working to overthrow, so obviously they understood the evil which can come about when a government attempts to disarm its populace.
But also, they were intelligent. As Ignatius Piazza and any student of his will tell you, gun training is absolutely fundamental to safety - armed and otherwise. Firearms training puts one into a permanent mindset where anything which comes one's way is confront-able and handle-able. Gun training means responsibility. The Founding Fathers knew this, Ignatius Piazza knows this, Front Sight knows this, and with any luck for (and from) the citizens of this fair country, the U.S. Supreme Court justices are aware of the need for guns, and, connectedly, gun training, in this nation.
