How To Prevent A Panic Attack

If you suffer from anxiety attacks, then you know how scary it can be. You feel like you can't breathe, you have nausea and chest pains and you may experience numbness or tingling in your arms and legs. A full blown panic attack will make you think that you are dying. So it is only natural for people with panic disorder to want to stay away from situations that cause anxiety. That is why a lot of people with panic disorder will develop agoraphobia. They will become unable to leave their homes. Read on to learn how to stop an anxiety attack before it happens.

It is hard to pinpoint the exact cause of a panic attack, but for a lot of people it can be traced back to specific life events. It can be a particularly stressful situation at work or at home, an ongoing illness or a traumatic event that happened in the past.

The first thing you should do is talk to your doctor. Tell him what is going on. He may be able to prescribe medication that will help you. Getting plenty of exercise can help prevent anxiety attacks from happening. Use yoga and cardio exercises to deal with your anxiety disorder. Getting enough sleep will help also. You should try to get at least eight hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. It is best to sleep in total darkness. This will enhance the production of melatonin and provide you with a more restful sleep.

Learning meditation techniques and visualization can help with anxiety attacks also. If you start to feel nervous or feel like a panic attack is coming on, breath deep and visualize yourself in a relaxing place that will calm your mind.

Acupuncture has been proven to help people that suffer from anxiety attacks. This method of treatment is becoming more of a mainstream treatment for a variety of ailments. Chances are you will be able to find an acupuncturist in your area. Give this method a try and it may be all that you need to cure your panic disorder.

Do not fall into the dangerous trap of self medication with drugs and alcohol. This will do nothing but exacerbate the problem and add more anxiety to your life.

Panic and anxiety can be debilitating if left untreated. That is why it is important that you learn how to stop an anxiety attack. Find the method that works the best for you and use it. Panic and anxiety can be defeated.
