How To Find Effective Acne Skin Care Products

By: Wendy Jones

There will probably come a time in the not too distant future where the condition of acne (Zits) will be completely curable; but this is a skin condition that can be treated. It is not surprising then that a great deal of money has been spent on skin care treatment development; the result of this effort is new, more effective, treatments are becoming available. The acne skin care products available fall into these:

Preventative: Creams, lotions etc. to help cleanse and tone the skin

Over-the-counter: Treatment

Prescription: Issued for specialized medication from a doctor etc.

Probably the largest part of the skin care market is products designed to clean the skin and inhibit the formation of acne; these products can be anything from skin cleansers to makeup removers. Many people use products similar to this every day as part of their skin care regime; often used by those who want to prevent future skin problems from occurring.

There are acne skin care products that are more specialized in there approach; they clean out the pores to help stop sebum or oil which can clog these areas. Excess oil needs to be stopped from clogging the pores as this oil make it easier for bacteria to grow, exacerbating the condition.

Skin care treatments such as exfoliation skin peels, clean the skin and help control the spread of the condition; these can be bought easily over the counter or on the internet. They work by reducing oil plus other contaminants from the skin and in the pores; this can reduce harmful bacteria and stop their chance of growth.

There is a huge market for these types of acne skin care products as they don't require a consultation with a dermatologist. A bacterium that aids the formation of acne is stopped by creams and cleansers that contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid; these include creams, cleansers and peels that slow down acne formation.

It is preferable when you first start using this type of product to keep the concentration of it low, around 5.5 percent is best; an alternative to this includes products which contain alpha hydroxy acid. Because we all have different types of skin, more than one type of acne skin care product may need to be tried; if none of them work then you would be advised to contact your skin specialist. On-prescription treatments are prescribed by a dermatologist and can include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical ointment.

Your dermatologist may suggest a minor operation to remove the contents of pustules; specialists never recommend the sufferer tries this themselves as it can cause permanent skin damage. Your doctor could prescribe a hormone-based treatment to treat your skin problem; hormone changes can be responsible for acne but hormone therapy can be very effective when used under prescription. Constant research has paid off, and whilst they cannot cure the condition, it is becoming easier to treat.
