Many bikers have learned the hard way that the sunglasses you wear when riding are very important to your safety in more ways than one. Actually a cheap pair of sunglasses have the potential to cause more damage than not wearing them at all. There are a few key features that you should look for when shopping for your next pair of motorcycle sunglasses or goggles.

Be sure that the lenses block out 99 to 100% of ultraviolet rays, both UVA and UVB rays and at least 75% of visible light. Buying cheap sunglasses that don't have this protection can increase the risk of injury to your eyes. Inexpensive sunglasses block some light which will allow more light into the eye as well as the harmful UV rays.

New advances in lens technology are now available. Polycarbonate lenses are not only thinner and lighter in weight than traditional plastic or glass lenses, but they also block out infrared radiation responsible for dry and scratchy eyes.

Polycarbonate lenses use in motorcycle sunglasses and goggles are virtually shatterproof and impact resistant and favored by those who travel the highways and byways. Due to how tough these lenses are they have become the lenses of choice for extreme sports sunglasses and safety eyewear.

Today's designs in eyewear offer choices which are much more advantages than previous designs. Look for face hugging ergonomic styles. These designs offer maximum sunglass coverage and protection from the sun, wind, and debris both from the front and sides.

Scratch resistance is very important when deciding on a pair of motorcycle sunglasses. A high quality scratch resistance coating will keep your lenses free from even the slightest scratches that can be causes by cleaning. If the lenses are kept scratch free you will have better visibility.

The frames of today have now made motorcycle sunglasses that are much stronger than the cheaper versions widely available. This new technology makes frames more flexible and able to handle the daily use that motorcycle sunglasses go through.

The next time you go shopping for your next pair of motorcycle sunglasses or goggles you should have a much better idea of what to look for. Don't think that just because a pair that has a designer name and high price tag is actually a better pair. Look at the details and buy for protection and comfort not the name.
