Although there are two basic forms of constipation, organic and functional in this article we will be looking at the functional form of constipation and the ways in which it can be treated using natural remedies. Firstly let's look at what Functional Constipation is. This kind of constipation is a direct result of us not following the correct kind of diet and not drinking enough fluids. You should also take a close look at your own type of lifestyle; what you really want is a lifestyle that will help promote the movement of digested food through the intestines and colon correctly, and not hindering the process. Although you may have read the many different types of the definitions of what is constipation, but simply put, constipation is define as a condition where fecal matter remains for too long in the colon prior to leaving the body through the rectum. What should be remembered however is that constipation is a symptom and not a disease and it is telling you that your colon is not working properly or that you may have some form of gastrointestinal disease that you do not know about. Certainly constipation may a warning sign that the lifestyle you are leading and the diet you are on is causing an imbalance in the way your body works. Many people will often ignore or try to eliminate the symptoms caused by constipation using unnatural or drugstore laxatives (which can only cause further problems). In fact whenever possible drugstore laxatives should be avoided at all costs (they can become addictive) will cause damage to the colon as well as producing some nasty side effects if used for extended periods of time. In some instances, they may create the problem of constipation which in fact you are trying to get rid of.
