There could be a number of different reasons for why you may start to lose more hair than would be considered normal. Yet although it was thought, for a long time, to be a problem that only men had to deal with, today there are quite a few women who have to deal with this condition as well. Below we look at some of the main hair loss reasons, which can result in this condition occurring no matter the person's age.
As mentioned before, many people have always thought that hair loss was something that only men had to deal with. Yet in fact, today it is becoming quite common for women to have to deal with this problem as well. In the United States alone around 30 million women are now trying to deal with hair loss of one kind or another.
Yet even though we have been fighting the problems of hair loss for many centuries now, you will find that many experts are still unable to decide what the main cause for this problem is. Below we will look at just some of the more common factors that can contribute towards a person losing their hair.
1. Heredity - This is the most common type of hair loss that people suffer from. Half of all children who have a parent who suffers from hair loss will also suffer from the same problem as well.
You will find that many people think that hair loss caused by heredity is predominantly something that men have to deal with they need to think again. Yes Androgenetic Alopecia is common in men (male pattern baldness) it is also becoming more common in women as well (female pattern baldness). This is because women as well as men in a family are likely to be transmitters of the gene that can cause this medical condition.
2. Drugs and Medical Treatments - There are many drugs and medical treatments including radiation therapy and chemotherapy, which can result in a person losing their hair. The problem with such medical treatments is that they often prevent the hair follicles from being able to grow further after old and dead hair has been shed.
3. Imbalance In Hormone Levels - In some cases especially with women, it has been noted that their androgen and estrogen hormone levels have become imbalanced. When this occurs, the body will produce much more DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) which will prevent the right signals from passing through to the hairs follicles allowing them to grow hair properly.
Above we have looked at three of the main causes why a person is likely to suffer from hair loss. However, there are plenty of other reasons for a person to begin to lose their hair. For some it could be their age and for others it could be because they have a medical problem relating to their immune system. Whilst other hair loss reasons for women may be that they are going through menopause or they may have recently given birth to a child.
