GTA4 PlayStation3

By: Jon Asslexiaha

Since the first game was released, the success of the Grand Theft Auto series has been one outstanding game after another, and it has proven to be one of the most well-known gaming franchises ever created. With each title released, it is a great leap not only for the franchise, but for video gaming itself. There's no question that GTA is up there when it comes to the Sandbox genre, and those who've played it knows the reason why. With this ninth iteration from the well-known series, GTA 4 picks off where GTA 3 ended. However, the series has given gamers with an entirely new experience with each game, and fans can certainly expect the same with GTA IV.

While every GTA story has been carefully crafted to offer a much different kind of experience, you can always expect it to have the same intense and spectacular nature. However, with this new game, the story leaps off quite differently. In this game, players will get to immerse in the persona of Niko Bellic, who is a former soldier wanting to escape a troubled past, not knowing that more trouble await him in Liberty City. With a rugged look to him, Niko feels a lot like home in Liberty City and leaves a lot to do around the city. GTA4 digresses from the highly volatile nature of past GTA characters; instead making it more objective-laden, which in turn makes this game a more absorbing play. If in previous GTA games you have engaged yourself in mindless rampages, with Niko you have to remain focused on the objective at hand and remain true to that.

As for the other characters (even random ones) that are in GTA 4, they have improved significance as far as storyline is concerned in this game. When Niko makes certain decisions, he will be forced to put into consideration certain characters and how that decision will be beneficial (or not) to him later on in the game. Forming relationships with other characters in the game is also crucial in helping you progress in this game, and you will definitely have to take a few considerations first before making impulsive moves.

As Liberty City serves as the setting for GTA IV, it needs pointing out that there probably has been no other videogame before that looked this stunning. With so much attention given to details, it is only fitting that it was created not only for the eyes but serves their purpose in the game.

But that is not all that Grand Theft Auto IV has to offer. It has used the previous GTA games as a launching pad for a much better and improved gameplay system. The combat system is probably the best feature of GTA IV. Rockstar decided to improve on this in order to infuse more sophistication and excitement into the combat of this game, as well as to be at par with some of today's best shooters. And while there is still the free-aim feature, you can now make use of the very efficient lock-on feature. By setting your aim on an opponent, you are sure to hit right where your aim is. And by a simple press of the corresponding button, you will see your enemies blasting to pieces. The cover system is also new to this game. By simply pressing R1, you can make your character hug the nearest suitable object. While in this manner, you will be able to effectively take cover from your enemies and it is also best recommended to use this feature when facing multiple enemies. What this new feature does is that you can minimize the any form of damage that can possibly get your character killed. These new features certainly help to upgrade the level of gaming experience that gamers were already expecting of a Grand Theft Auto game.

If you though that was impressive, wait till you hear about GTA IV's new in-car combat system. With a great lineup of combat tools at your disposal, it is amazing how this new feature can be utilized to your advantage and yet it is nothing less as effective as your regular on-foot combat. You can drive your car while knocking down your enemies at the same time. You still have the option for a free-aim though, it's basically your choice. If before, getting to shoot someone while you're driving proved to be quite a task, this time around everything is so much better. All these efforts of improving the game play mechanics is done to live up and even surpass fans' expectation of what GTA IV can deliver.

The mission structure of GTA IV is also another important aspect of this game that needs to be discussed. Because the previous GTA's have been proven, this game carries on the winning formula. So, as you go through this game, you'd have to traverse the entire city in order to accomplish missions for certain characters, with each of these missions offering a unique experience for gamers. The missions in GTA IV are not just action-packed, there are more to expect from it especially in terms of novelty and intensity.

Once you arrive in Liberty City, you will now have Roman's phone. Then, you can use that as your control panel and organizer for anything that needs to be done in the game. But more importantly, your phone enables you to receive messages about oncoming missions, it lets you control Niko's life, as well as gain access to multiplayer features, and many other things that enable you to move forward in the game. Having to use the phone as a way to control the game is definitely innovative, and it creates this illusion that everything is happening within the world of the game, which is independent of the player's command.

The online multiplayer feature is another exciting addition to an already packed gaming experience. This will enable you to share the wonderful experience of playing GTA IV with 15 other players and this will alter the way you have anticipated GTA IV to be. But GTA IV is determined to reign supreme among those considered epic games (like Call of Duty 4 and Rainbow Six Vegas) as the king of Multiplayer by infusing some more unique game modes.
