The ways of the Eastern world have gained more acceptance in the West. Perhaps this is because the more we have, the less happy we seem to be. Feng Shui provides a tactical view on harmony and energy that can help nudge your life in the right direction.
What is Feng Shui? It is the placement of physical things in your life to create harmony and energy balance in a space. It is an ancient Chinese philosophy that has been used over thousands of years. When your space is in harmony, so is your life.
Oddly, this philosophy was originally known by the name Kan You, not Feng Shui. As it became the dominant philosophy in the China regions, it was renamed Feng Shui and took on a huge political and societal role.
Given the minimize role of Feng Shui today, you might be surprised to learn that ancient China ran primarily on it. Politics were ruled by it and every city was designed using Feng Shui as applied to the position of celestial bodies.
The dominance of the theory ran from a period of from five thousand to two thousand years ago and is easily noted in archelogical digs and reseach given the orderly procession of structures from cities to individual spaces.
As you well know, the prospects of Feng Shui have faded over time. The ideas of energy and flow may be making a comeback, but one needs to only look at the conflicts in the world and state of our cities to know it has a long way to go.
In truth, modern Feng Shui has gone local. The largest applications are no longer cities, but individual projects where the purchase of land and building upon it are determined using the philosophy.
On a person level, Feng Shui can be implemented in and around your personal spaces at home and work to create harmony with the immediate environment. This, in turn, creates positive energy which attracts harmony in the rest of your life as well.
Perhaps the oddest fact about Feng Shui has to do with China. Why? It is forbidden by the communist government. The versions you and I are familiar with are actually from schools of thought based in the UK and USA.
For a philosophy that has been with us for so long, there would be seem to be a bit of a harmony break given the fact it isn't practiced formally in China. That being said, it should return to prominence as communism continues its fade.
