Patrick Combs is an inspirational speaker. He's also a comedic entertainer and has a best-selling book, Major in Success. He would tell you that joy, passion, and gifts are three words that simply can't be separated. You can make yourself sick doing the same old thing day after day if it's something you don't truly enjoy. Joy comes from following your passions.
Patrick Combs had so many successes by doing each one at a time. You can't be two places at once, so obviously you can't live two lives at once. Focus on one passion at a time. When you reach it, use it as a building block for the next passion. Have faith rather than fear. Fear is being afraid of something you're not sure is possible. Faith, however, is HOPING for something you're not sure is possible.
Have faith in your passions and take one step at a time toward them. Taking those baby steps toward your passions is easier said than done, though. Patrick Combs has had a lot of "shoulds" in his life just as the rest of us do. We all know how it feels when you "should" be doing this but you'd really rather be doing that. Taking steps means prioritizing your shoulds.
This week, drop one of the non-essential things from your to-do list and replace it with something you'd rather be doing. Next week, replace another one. Soon your life will be full of things you love so that your "shoulds" don't take up your entire day.
Ok, so maybe prioritizing your "shoulds" is a little easier said than done. Patrick Combs once felt that way as well. We all know what it's like to have hardships and doubts, hurdles and insecurities. To be unstoppable, you have to get past all that.
After a long, hard day, you put your head on your pillow and feel like the most worthless person in the world. You're full of insecurity. Patrick Combs tells people to "sleep on it". When you go to sleep, you feel like a quitter. If you are truly passionate about something though, when you wake, you won't feel like a quitter anymore. If you do, find a new passion. If you feel like you want to go on, you have what it takes to overcome adversity!
Keep a journal. It sounds simple, but Patrick Combs used a journal to get through his insecurity before becoming a successful comedic entertainer. Of course you're not going to want to write down the negative comments people make about your efforts. You should write down the things you want to remember and dwell on. Read them everyday. Use them to boost your confidence, and don't give up. If you want to live life with passion, live today passionately.
If you're going to be successful, you'll have to go through a daily roller coaster ride. Patrick Combs rode it each day as well. It took three long years of mental roller coasters to become a successful comedian.
