Decorating Your Master Bedroom

By: Joe Vincente

Although your bedroom is first and foremost a place to sleep each night, it has the potential for being much more and with just a little thought and imagination, remodeling a master bedroom can change it beyond recognition. As the bedroom has become a place for other functions besides sleeping, like reading or relaxing for example, many people have seen the advantages of making this a special place in the home. The French of course have always led the world in designing sexy bedrooms, and now people everywhere have started to follow their lead and decorate their bedrooms for sensuality as well as other reasons.

To do this requires the use of emotionally appealing colors that are more seductive like rouge or lipstick reds, subtle pinks or creamy peaches. If you are fond of candlelight then the addition of strategically placed mirrors will give a dramatic effect that could not be done with conventional lighting. The addition of oval mirrors can help create beautiful reflections when candles are placed close to them.

The only other thing you will need to add is sufficient light to read by which could always be a reading lamp on a table next to the chair but make sure the lighting is not to strong or it will spoil the effect. Traditionally to achieve the best effect in a room for reading in you should look towards the softer shades of ivory, amber and slate blue. There are those individuals that view a bedroom as a kind of place to go to get away from everyone else so if you are remodeling your master bedroom to provide this style look to add big pillows and cushions and perhaps the odd landscape painting.

If your sanctuary is also a place where you intend to read then the addition of a comfortable chair and a reading lamp will be a simple matter. Of course when remodeling your master bedroom this way, pictures of your family (preferably in antique brass frames) should be placed around the room to provide a sanctuary like feeling. The most comfortable colors for a sanctuary style room are darker shades like chocolate brown, deep greens and cobalt blues which help make the room feel cozy.

Often people who like to read also enjoy writing and a small bureau can be extremely effective as can something to listen to your favorite music on but obviously this depends on the space you have available. It is not uncommon to place concealed fridges either in addition to tea or coffee making facilities which almost provide the feel of a quality hotel suite. If you have a busy home then remodeling your bedroom into a place where you can disappear for a while to enjoy some peace and relaxation is not such a bad idea.
