Business profitability requires six major skill sets. The first part of this two-part series on business profitability covered the first of these three skills: financial, idea generation, and planning skills.
This second part deals with the customer, marketing, and management skills that you need to achieve business profitability.
Management Skills Needed To Build Business Profitability
Business management will require most of your day-to-day activity.
It's your responsibility to systemize business procedures, to provide leadership to your employees, to build them into a team, and to establish how information will flow through your business.
Your business' success depends on you. Whether it runs smoothly to business profitability, or hiccups its way to a permanent "closed "sign is totally up to you.
Even if you are a great manager, you still have to market well in order for your business to arrive at business profitability.
Marketing Skills To Build Business Profitability
Small business marketing is often the responsibility of the business owner. If that's true in your business, then marketing is one of your most important skills.
It's marketing that generates leads. Your business and sales leads depend on your ability to market well enough to bring new customers to your business.
You have to have customers and the income that they provide through sales, or your business can't survive, much less build business profitability.
You need marketing skills from advertising to public relations. Only with marketing can you get the attention of your potential customers. But it's building positive customer relationships that get your customers back "in the door" to purchase again.
Customer Relations Skills Required To Reach Business Profitability
You need the skill to work with, and get feedback from, your customers. It's best to implement systems to assure that you are constantly surveying your customers for their opinions about your business and its products and services. And don't be intimidated by customer complaints. Instead see them as an opportunity to improve your business.
If you listen, your customers will tell you how to improve your business, customer satisfaction and customer retention. If you provide excellent customer service and build good customer relationships, your chances of business growth and business profitability grow exponentially.
Conclusion
You need to develop your skills in management, marketing, customer relations, idea generation, planning, and handling business finances if you are to attain business profitability.
But you still need something else. You need to establish a business profitability goal and constantly work toward it. With this goal in sight, you are far more likely to travel toward it and to build business profitability.
