Anabolic Steroids

Anabolic steroids are naturally synthesised in the human body and the principal anabolic steroid source produced by the body is testosterone. Since the male body produces higher quantities of testosterone when compared to the female body, secondary sexual characters like body hair and other masculine characters develop primarily in men. The female body also produces minute quantities of testosterone. Anabolic steroids are derivatives of testosterone and are responsible for a variety of developments at both macro and cellular levels.
Isolated in the 1930s, anabolic steroids were initially used for medical purposes like bone growth and to improve muscle development. The term ‘anabole’ means “to build up” in Greek and this is exactly what anabolic steroids do. It was only a matter of time before athletes and body builders discovered that anabolic steroids allowed them to build up muscular mass much quicker. In addition, anabolic steroids also improve a person’s stamina. Medically, anabolic steroids are used to treat cancer, induce puberty and treat chronic wasting conditions. Two of the most popular anabolic steroids used by athletes today are TGH (Tetrahydrogestrinone) and Andro (Androstenedione).
It is important to note neither TGH nor Andro are deemed legal by the FDA or by major sports authorities; however amateur body builders and non-professional athletes use both TGH and Andro to increase muscular mass. TGH is so popular that many nutritional supplements contain quantities of TGH. Since THG is a direct derivative of testosterone it is considered illegal by FDA and so are supplements that contain TGH.
Andro is banned by the NFL, NCAA and NBA. Instead of directly adding to the body’s testosterone Andro stimulates the release of testosterone in the body, thus stimulating muscle build up without directly adding directly to the body’s testosterone levels. Recent studies have shown that Andro is responsible for problems like low sperm count and shrunken testicles.
Despite the ban on TGH and Andro, Americans are consuming close to $1.4 billion worth of anabolic steroids via nutritional supplements and injections. Since TGH and Andro can be easily traced, a majority of TGH and Andro users are body builders that are not planning on competing in major competitions.
Recently available variations of TGH are not easily traceable and there has been considerable controversy surrounding the use of TGH by athletes. What is disturbing is that numerous baseball players and body builders have accepted that they have previously used TGH to enhance their performance; this is why almost all sports authorities have started testing samples for traces of TGH.
Despite the criticism of anabolic steroids, the truth is that anabolic steroids like TGH and Andro are in considerable demand all over the US and with time the consumption of these drugs is expected to increase. Most muscle building supplements today contain some derivative of Andro or TGH; in addition many websites are offering easy shipping of anabolic steroids like Andro and TGH. Users of anabolic steroids are often aware of the side effects and it is eventually an individual’s choice if they want to use anabolic steroids or not.
