Vintage automobiles are a source of pride for car collectors who are taking care of them. Everybody likes to look at these old classic cars at the car shows with a sense of nostalgia. To look at a antique automobile is almost like taking a time-travel machine back to that point in history. People remember their early years, and it gives them a good feeling. They seem to almost give a feeling of euphoria to people who see the car that they used to drive as a teenage live in person. When a car has a like-new shine, a big factor is usually a classic car cover.
Vintage cars need special treatment with car covers for various reasons. The first and the most apparent is the fact that these beauties are irreplaceable and rare. Also, it is not an easy task to restore a car if it is damaged through corrosion. So it cannot be stressed deeply enough, even if the classic car is garage kept, the car needs to be covered with a proper classic auto cover.
When out looking for the perfect car cover, it can be hard to find, according to what you have. On rarer years and models, it can nearly be a scavenger hunt trying to get the perfect car cover. Try to find someone who makes car covers or a retailer that carries them. It is possible to find a classic car cover maker over the internet or ebay, but on rarer occasions, you can find one at a junk yard.
Covers prevent the dust, stains, and moisture from ruining on your classic car. When elements collect on your car, corrosion can crop up. Damage caused by the effects of extended exposure will lower the value of your car. I don't advise having a classic car unless you have a classic car cover.
When shopping around, we suggest that you consider first where the car will be stored. There are different micro-climates in different locations. Cars that are kept in a garage do not necessarily need the same conditions that a car that is kept outside in the sun or in the shade. The fabrics will need to be different, as well as other properties of protection.
Especially in outdoor situations, water resistance is very important, but it is not the only thing. You must make absolutely sure that the fabric is breathable. This is because moisture will accumulate from condensation between the material and the car body. Bad news! So don't be a redneck... please don't go out to Wal-Mart and buy a blue tarp and pitch it on top of your classic show car! You'll live to regret it if your car is worth much.
Also, don't forget the softness of the material. Scuffing a nice paint job with a rough material is a terrible thing to do. When it dragged over your priceless vintage vehicle over the years, it will show in the paint job like a well worn dog path to the neighbors scrap pile. It just isn't pretty. I've seen grown men cry after they realized what they did to their exquisite paint job by their own hands.
According to wherever you keep your classic, you will also want to look at the thickness of the classic car cover material. There are car covers with multiple layers that are very soft and thick, which provide protection from minor dings and scratches in the body. Often these types of covers will be very expensive, but well worth the money in my opinion. An ounce of prevention is worth much more than a pound of cure.
Finally, if all efforts fail, you need to seek out somebody who makes car covers professionally and have one custom prepared for your vintage automobile. The costs may be higher than what you expected for the high quality cover, but the rewards are far greater!
