Allergies That Can Affect Your Bichon Frise

By: Mary Stevenson

If you have a Bichon Frise, you certainly know how adorable this creature is, especially when it moves around you like a soft white fur ball. You share so many things with your dog. However, not all shared things are good for your dog such as Bichon Frise allergies. There are a wide variety of factors like food, environmental pollutants, household chemicals and irritants that can cause allergies in the Bichon Frise. It is the veterinarian who is able to diagnose the allergies.

The sensitive skin of the Bichon Frise makes them highly vulnerable towards allergies. If these dogs are badly affected by fleas, they lack their liveliness and oomph. You can certainly prevent fleas by ensuring thorough bathing at least twice in a month. The dog needs to be groomed properly on a regular basis. Regular bathing and grooming are effective preventive measures in order to avoid getting fleas in their body.

When you find your dog scratching, it may imply possible Bichon Frise allergies. It may take some time and effort to find the specific root of the problem. A bad reaction may occur as a result of chemical irritants found in the shampoo or infections caused by fleas or other pests, residing within their hair. So, if you own a Bichon Frise, it is important that you brush your dog every day. If they have already started itching, too much brushing may lead to exasperation of the skin condition.

Many veterinarians prefer to treat the dogs by intervening with the minimum of medications. They may simply suggest changing regular non-medicated shampoo to a medicated one. But not all pet owners are truly sensitive and patient, since they always look for quicker outcomes. In such conditions, veterinarians prescribe steroid medications to the dogs in order to resolve the issue and to find out the quickest possible solution for the problem.

Although there are certain >Bichon Frise allergies that can only be treated using steroid medications, a prolonged and persistent administration without the proper guidance of veterinarians may lead to severe diseases such as Cushing's syndrome.

This condition largely occurs due to the fact that the cortical balance is profoundly affected by the long-term usage of steroids. Since your Bichon Frise is precious to you, think twice before demanding a quick fix method. Try treatments with the fewest or less severe side effects first.

Many things can cause Bichon Frise allergies and the best treatment, whenever possible, is to remove the irritant. Some dogs may even have allergies to the trees and grasses or just the humidity of some parts of the country.

Some allergens may be able to be completely removed. Patience, understanding and elimination or avoidance of the allergen should allow your pet to live a normal healthy, happy life.
