If you are like most citizens, you might have a small fear of flying or being in an airplane. In many cases, this fear is senseless, as statistics show a very low fatality rate for airplane travel. Even with this reassurance, it is important for mechanics and pilots to educate themselves on the airplane parts industry and how it affects them.
The Federal Aviation Administration
The Federal Aviation Administration is a US department that helps keep the aviation industry safe for everyone. They have recently been called out on their lack of quality control for airliners who import their airplane parts from foreign sources.
Shopping for airline parts in foreign countries isn't always a good idea, but it does indeed help keep costs down for airliners. This gives more slack to consumers, who don't always like the idea of an expensive plane ticket. Often, however, the cheap way out can hinder quality.
But because of the lack of safety checking, substandard parts have found their way into other countries such as the United States. In fact, the FAA has made a report indicating that several engine failures were caused by unapproved changes made at the manufacturing level. One of the engine failures was during an actual flight- meaning consumers were put at risk because of this bargain hunting.
To come up with a solution, the FAA reevaluated their efforts in finding the best quality for the best price. In the end, the department agreed to make more on-site inspections of foreign manufacturers, and to also include inspection standards as the parts make their way into US territory.
Options For Consumers In Airplane Safety
Airplane equipment safety for consumers isn't a subject that provides much options. Consumers can't choose airliners based on where they buy their airplane equipment. Pilots can, however, choose to buy their own equipment from manufacturers that have a good reputation. In that way, the quality of service is guaranteed.
Some believe that there are sections of an airplane that are more safe than others. Sadly, this remains to be untrue because there are too many factors to consider when concerning airplane equipment failure.
To help their chances of survival, citizens should follow the directions and regulations provided to them. Different procedures are apparent on different types of planes. A large class plane, for instance, will have different procedures than a hobbyist plane may.
Of all the hazards that are apparent in airplane equipment failure, the worst is the prospect of losing consciousness. It is very important that in the event of catastrophe, oxygen masks be placed and kept on one's face with urgency. This ensures that one stays conscious even under extreme circumstances.
In the end, it all comes down to quality parts. If you are a hobbyist, you can do your part by ensuring you buy parts from a quality manufacturer. Sadly, you won't have the luxury with choosing an airline, in which case you'll have to hope for the best.
