In order to have a building considered to be a green building, it must adequately meet all the elements of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, .rating system. “LEED certification will provide challenges to the industry including the need to ensure an understanding of a new generation of materials properties and developing the practices and processes needed to ensure specifications and finished products meet the standards of green building.
