Will the world end on December 21 2012? On this date the Mayan Calendar comes to an end. What does this have to do with the end of the world as we know it?
The Mayan Calendar has been around 679 B.C. and is not just one calendar but several very complex calendars that when combined is the most accurate calendar ever in existence. The Mayan Calendar is so complex that it can predict eclipses of planets 6000 years in advance with only a 1 day error. There is nothing in comparison to the Mayan Calendar when predicting seasonal, planetary, and solar changes.
How was December 21 2012 derived from the Mayan Calendar? As mentioned before, the Mayans used several calendars to make up the one Mayan Calendar. The Mayans used a series of cycles that made up larger cycles up to what we would call a long cycle. This long cycle just happens to end December 21 2012, which is also the end of the Mayan Calendar.
Since the long cycle is ending on December 21 2012 it has caught the attention of both laymen and scholars alike. Some are saying we need to be worried given the accuracy of the Mayan Calendar's predictions. Others say we shouldn't worry as that the next long cycle begins on December 22 2012.
What would be helpful is knowing if there is anything predicted to happen in 2012. Is there anything that could potentially support the end coming in 2012?
Before we ever believe in a prediction, we need to have corroborating evidence. Is there any evidence that the world might end in 2012? Is there any evidence supporting that something global might happen in 2012 that should cause us to have concern?
What if we found not one but two very reputable scientist who say that a major planetary event is coming in 2011 or 2012? In fact, they are saying this without a doubt because it happens every 50 years or so and gets greater each time it happens. Because the world has changed so much in the last 50 years, this event will be more far reaching than anytime in this planet's history.
What to do now? We can dismiss all the facts and try and forget the December 21 2012 date. We can wait and see what happens in the coming months. Maybe the government will take care of all of us. Maybe we can take responsibility ourselves and learn more about what might happen in the year 2012.
