10 Ways To Lower Your Food Bill

By: Danek S. Kaus

Food prices keep going higher and higher. If you're looking for ways to spend less while still eating well, follow these tips.

You'll be less likely to buy things you don't need if you shop after a meal. A full tummy equals a fuller wallet.

You'll spend less money if you shop with a list. So write down what you need and buy only what is on the list.

Usually, the store's own brands taste just as good as the name brands, and they cost a lot less, so give them a try.

You can dramatically reduce your grocery store bills by using coupons. Some people have turned it into a science that enables them to buy an entire cart of groceries for a few dollars.

Remember cooking? Those convenience foods cost a lot more. You don't have to start from scratch, but if you're willing to spend a little more time in the kitchen, you can spend more time in the bank -- counting your money.

Be careful when buying large sizes. Sometimes the unit price is more.

Shop at a farmer's market. You'll spend much less for fruits and vegetables.

Watch the register. Those automatic scanners sometimes make mistakes that can cost you more.

Imported produce costs more, so consider buying each type of produce only when it is in season.

This is not a grocery store tip but it can still save you money. Bring your lunch to work. It really can reduce your food costs.
